Ready for the flight?

As a scuba diving instructor, I have had the opportunity to travel to various diving locations around the world. One thing that is always a challenge, however, is packing my scuba diving gear before a flight. It requires careful planning and organization to ensure that everything arrives at my destination in one piece and is ready to use.

The first thing I do when packing my scuba diving gear is to make a list of everything I will need. This includes my wetsuit, fins, mask, snorkel, regulator, buoyancy control device (BCD), dive computer, and any other necessary accessories. I also make sure to bring a spare set of O-rings and a repair kit in case any of my equipment experiences any issues while diving.

Next, I lay out all of my gear on my bed or floor to make sure I have everything. It is important to double-check that I haven't forgotten anything, as it can be difficult to replace certain items while on a diving trip. Once I am satisfied that I have everything I need, I start packing.

I usually use a large, sturdy duffle bag to store my scuba diving gear. I place my wetsuit and fins in one end of the bag and my BCD and regulator in the other end. I also pack my dive computer and any other small accessories in a separate bag to keep them organized and easy to access.

One thing I always make sure to do is to protect my regulator and BCD by placing them in separate mesh bags. This helps to keep them separate from the rest of my gear and prevents them from getting damaged during transit. I also wrap my dive computer in bubble wrap to protect it from any bumps or drops.

Finally, I always make sure to check the weight and size of my luggage before heading to the airport. Most airlines have strict weight and size limits for luggage, and it is important to adhere to these guidelines to avoid any extra fees or issues at the airport.

Packing my scuba diving gear before a flight can be a time-consuming and stressful process, but it is well worth it to ensure that everything arrives at my destination in good condition. By following these tips and being organized, I can focus on enjoying my diving trip rather than worrying about my gear.

Posso trasportare le mie bombole in auto? La risposta e'...

...ovviamente si! ma vediamo come e' disciplinato l'argomento e se ci sono accorgimenti particolari da tenere in considerazione. Nella mia macchina privata Un subacqueo può arrivare al sito di immersione in automobile e portarsi la bombola con aria compressa o nitrox, l’ossigeno di emergenza, l’argon per la muta stagna. Un privato che trasporta bombole subacquee caricate con aria, nitrox o argon per motivi personali (es. immersioni ricreative o ricariche) non è tenuto ad avere alcun documento di trasporto né etichette sul veicolo o sulla bombola. Deve solo trasportare la bombola in sicurezza nel portabagagli o sul pavimento del veicolo. La bombola non deve stare in posizione verticale ma incastrata tra i bagagli o dietro ai sedili per non farla rotolare di qua e di là. Perchè li chiamiamo "BENDS"?

In italiano sarebbe "La malattia dei cassoni", più comunemente definita come "Bends". Ma da dove deriva questo nome? La storia ci riporta agli inizi del '900, periodo nel quale operai dragavano il fondo di laghi, fiumi ed il mare con questi grossi cubi immersi in acqua e riempiti di aria compressa. Questi Cassoni avevano un grosso tubo nella parte superiore, denominato "camino" nel quale vi erano le scale per l'accesso alla parte immersa e per il pompaggio dell'aria compressa. Nella parte superiore vi era, di solito, una camera di compensazione. Il fondo invece era aperto per permettere la lavorazione. Come è semplice intuire, pur inconsapevolmente, tali operai erano del tutto soggetti alle stesse leggi che regolano l'attuale subacquea e quindi anche alla Malattia da Decompressione.
